Mumbai – a bustling city with many faces, once known to the Portuguese as “a beautiful little bay” or Bom Baim in their language. The mispronunciation of this cheerful attribution by the English gave the city its former name – Bombay. There is something for the pallet of all travellers here and almost every budget being India’s wealthiest city and de facto cultural hub.
Mumbaikars are welcoming and spirited people eager to present a side to India that isn’t present elsewhere in the country. It is unlikely not to be on your itinerary but if you have somehow excluded this state capital we urge you to reconsider and head south for a city imbued with history punctuated by a Bollywood vibe on land reclaimed from the Arabian Sea.
